Most people have relied on the perception that if they worked at a job for a long enough period of their life, they would be set for the later years of their lives, This is no longer a given anymore. The employer loyalty of the past is not what it once was. People can no longer count on keeping a job till they retire and even when they retire there is no longer a clear guarantee that their retirement income is solid and sustainable.

As things have changed and the economy has changed to benefit a smaller and smaller portion of the population, people are turning to alternative ways of securing income and relying less and less on job security. Even those that have a secure job are needing to create alternative streams of income.

These changes have been the largest driver of the explosion in the home business arena. More people own a home business of one kind or another than ever in history.
There are millions of home businesses operating in the U.S. alone. People with full time jobs are also operating a home business part time. Other people have transitioned from their jobs to a full time home business income.

This the face os the alternative economy. The home business connection is becoming the parallel economy. People are creating distribution networks outside the traditional patterns, People in corporate jobs are leaving those jobs to have a less stressful working life where they can be home with their families and control their own schedules.

One of the most successful forms of the home business model is the network marketing distribution model. A network marketing home business is an alternative to the job model of the traditional economy. People are taking control over their own lives. The network marketing model of distribution allows people to have a direct impact on their earning power. The products that are distributed through the network marketing model are usually higher quality and come with direct support from person to person..

Each person who owns and operates their own home business is operating in the alternative economy. They get paid what they are worth, they can work as hard as they want and get paid accordingly. They can network and leverage their time with others and maximize their earning potential.

Another aspect of the alternative economy is how people spend their money. When people choose to buy directly from home businesses they are supporting the alternative economy, they are making it possible for the home business owners to thrive. They are not putting their money into the economy that operates to mainly support the wealthy 1%.

The connection between a home business and a traditional job income is that often they can work together. When you have a home business you can get the tax benefits that allow you to retain more of your job income. This is an alternative to the problem of having so much money taken in taxes from a job income. The wealthy 1% pay very little tax because they have many tax deferments. A home business offers a way to defer some portion of taxes even when you are not wealthy and are not able to make your income primarily from capital and investment gain.

Everyone should have a home business, even if you just want to make a couple of hundred a month and spend just a couple of hours a week on your home business. You still can benefit from the tax advantage and you can decide at anytime to work harder and expand to a full time home business.

To survive into the future the alternative economy must expand and eventually become the main economy. An economy based on equity, honesty, compassion, social and environmental consciousness and a respect for the value and desires of every person.
